Tomorrow is a big day for some businesses here in Miami.
Effective on Monday, June 8th, Miami will be allowing the following to reopen per Amendment No. 2 in Miami-Dade County’s Emergency Order (EO) 23-20 :
- Gyms, fitness studios, tattoo parlors, massage studios/parlors, and summer camps may all re-open subject to EO 23-20 and the guidelines in the County Handbook.
- Movie theaters, concert houses, auditoriums, playhouses, and bowling alleys may reopen if they submit a COVID mitigation plan to the City and County and receive approval.
- Bars, pubs, and nightclubs that are licensed by the State as a public food service establishment may sell food and alcoholic beverages for onsite consumption, pursuant to EO 23-20 and the rules in the Handbook. Standalone bars and nightclubs are still not permitted to reopen, and entertainment is not allowed pursuant to the City’s Emergency Order.
Moving to a New Normal Handbook
These establishments/businesses may operate subject to the rules set forth in the Miami-Dade County Moving to a New Normal Handbook.
The bottom line, people are required to maintain social distancing while in all common areas of any establishment. For example, “[a]ny indoor restaurant operation must be limited to no more than 50% of its building occupancy with the maintenance of social distancing of 6 feet between parties.” See page 65 of the Handbook. All restaurant employees must wear masks, while glove use is to be reserved for employees involved in direct food preparations.
The Handbook requires gyms to “monitor building occupancy and restrict customer access to no more than 50 percent” and customers are required to wear facial coverings “when entering and exiting facilities and within facilities except when conducting certain activities where it is not possible to wear facial coverings.”
Anyone going back to work on Monday needs to wear a face covering, and businesses must test all staff and hire deep cleaners if an employee tests positive for COVID-19.
What opened over the weekend?
Following the issuance of Amendment 2 to County EO 21-20, dog parks have reopened, effective June 5th. The City will also allow youth sports to be conducted with certain social distancing and safety rules in place commencing on Monday, June 8, 2020.
Legal short-term rentals licensed by the City of Miami Beach have also reopened as of June 5th, subject to the requirements in Miami-Dade County Emergency Order (EO) 24-20.
What about Miami Beach?
On June 5, 2020, the City of Miami Beach extended its State of Emergency Declaration through June 12, 2020 and amended its Emergency Measures. So, the Beaches have yet to reopen.
